What is Chi Gong? Actually spelled Qigong and pronounced “Chee Gong,” it is a practice of slow, meditative exercises, still postures, and coordinated, deep breathing. Qigong is the practice from which Tai Chi derived.
The word “Qigong” combines two Chinese words and concepts: Qi (chee), your body’s vital energy, and gong, a practice of cultivation. Therefore Qigong is a practice which strengthens and renews your body’s vital energy. Qigong balances your whole nervous system and renews your complete health in body and mind.
In clinical studies, Qigong has been shown to improve:
- Blood pressure
- Heart function
- Brain blood flow
- Brain-wave function
- Sleep
- Sex hormone levels
- Bone density
- Reduced incidence of stroke
- Blood chemistry
- Immune competence
- Mind-body regulation
